Shark Tales Fish Baked in Pastry
Shark Tales! Lucy my neighbor's favorite movie. She turned eleven last month and I wanted to cook something yummy for her but I was not sure what till Velma my assistant gave this recipe, I made it and took it to her, she was thrilled everyone in her house loved it.
My favorite fish preparation is to brush it down thoroughly with
olive oil, sprinkle with dried herbs and/or finely chopped garlic, and
wrap it up in pie crust dough. I use steaks for this, with all skin and
bones carefully removed. You bake them until the crust is golden, and the
baking temperature you use will determine the doneness of the fish. In
your case, I would try temperatures between 450 and 475 degrees F. (The
hotter the oven, the *less* done the fish will be when the crust is
ready.) The pastry shell keeps the meat nice and moist, and it's
impressive as hell.
For the dough, I've always just used the "Basic Pie Crust" from
the Joy of Cooking--I use it for lots of things, sweet and savory--with
maybe a little rosemary, thyme, basil, or dill stirred in with the flour
and salt. Just in case you don't have the JOC:
Basic Pie Crust Dough:
(all honor and credit to the Joy of Cooking)
2 C flour
2/3 C shortening (can be all butter, half butter/half lard, Crisco, etc.)
~1/2 tsp. salt
~3 T water
Stir together flour and salt with a fork. Use more salt if the
filling will be savory and/or if your shortening is unsalted. You can add
a little sugar if the filling will be sweet (a couple of tablespoons).
Cut half the shortening into the flour, then rub in between your
fingers until the mixture has about the texture of cornmeal. Then cut in
the remaining shortening, leaving it in roughly pea-sized lumps. (These
form the "flakes" when rolled out.) Add just enough cold water to make
the dough come together, chill until somewhat stiff, then roll out on a
liberally floured board.
This makes enough for a 2-crust 9 inch pie, or two single crust
pies, or six entree turnovers, or twelve dessert turnovers
As time goes by and I continue to make this Fish baked pastry I convince myself that its truly the best dish I have ever made. Its so yummy yet different everyone gets a kick out of it, its very cool.

| SPOON WALK: Put an egg (can also use a marshmallow) on a spoon and walking across an area; make an obstacle course if you like. Can also play where you have to pass it to a partner to go back to the beginning is fun. If the egg is dropped, you have to start over. Grown ups have to put the spoon in their mouths. You can also play hide and seek: all of the people who are hiding must balance an object on a spoon as they dash for a hiding spot. If it falls, that's where they have to hide. Lots more

Shark Tales MENU IDEAS |

Shark Tales is a really happening movie. All those cute underwater creatures make for a great movie experience. Usually though your kids will want to have more, more, more of their Shark Tales experience. You can provide that service with a great Shark Tales party, where they can watch the movie over and over again. A great Shark Tales Birthday party menu is also an excellent way to satisfy your party guest's culinary desires.
An ice cream pie made with cookie crumb pie shell and layered ice cream and caramel topping will be something party guests can sink their teeth into. Candy turtles of pecans and caramel then covered with chocolate are the best topper for this pie. Serve with a little whipped cream and hot chocolate. An entrée of shark may be a little too exotic for this party but cod will do nicely. Frozen breaded sticks or squares should be heated and served with tartar sauce or ketchup. Steak fries and cheddar cheese sauce with canned corn will make a good menu. Bread sticks with melted garlic butter will complete the offering. Even though there is an ice cream pie a traditional birthday cake should be served for the sake of the decorations if for no other reason. A plastic shark cake topper is an idea decoration and coordinating decorator icings can indicate the surf.
Now that you've created the best Shark Tales party menu that you can for your event there are a few other areas to take care of for the celebration. You'll need to track down some great decorations and party favors. The kids can also appreciate some fun party game activities to work off all the excess energy they'll build up from sugary party treats. Paper party goods can make for easy clean up after the party too! By just adding even one simple food item to the menu will help create
