Shrek’s Smokey Bacon Roasted Chicken
This Shrek’s Smokey Bacon Roasted Chicken is to die for; it will have all children licking their fingers. If you are having a couple of kids over and you want to prepare a healthy yet fun dish, well this is it, search no more. As you begin to prepare you will not hesitate to start eating as you go, because they are truly irresistible.
Ingredients
1. 4 ounces sliced bacon, chopped
2. 1 teaspoon sweet paprika
3. 5 small garlic cloves—3 smashed, 2 minced
4. Salt and freshly ground pepper
5. One 4-pound chicken, quartered and wings removed
6. 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
7. 1 small onion, coarsely chopped
8. 1 large carrot, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
9. 2 small celery ribs, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
10. 2 rosemary sprigs
11. 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
12. 1/2 cup dry red wine
Directions
1. In a mini processor, puree the bacon, paprika, smashed garlic and a pinch each of salt and pepper to a paste. Loosen the skin on the chicken breasts and legs and spread the paste under the skin, pressing to even it out. Refrigerate the chicken for 4 hours or preferably overnight.
2. Preheat the oven to 350°. Heat the oil in a large, ovenproof nonstick skillet. Season the chicken lightly with salt and pepper. Add to the skillet, skin side down, and cook over moderately high heat until golden, about 5 minutes. Turn and cook until lightly browned all over, about 2 minutes longer. Transfer the chicken to a plate.
3. Add the onion, carrot, celery, minced garlic and rosemary to the skillet and cook over moderate heat, stirring occasionally, until barely softened, about 6 minutes. Return the chicken to the pan, skin side up, and roast in the oven for about 25 minutes, until an instant-read thermometer inserted in the thickest part of the leg and breast registers 170°. Remove the skillet from the oven and preheat the broiler.
4. Meanwhile, in a medium saucepan, boil the chicken broth until reduced to 1/2 cup, about 15 minutes.
5. Transfer the chicken to a platter, cover loosely with foil and keep warm. Spoon off the fat in the skillet. Add the red wine to the skillet and boil over high heat until almost evaporated, about 5 minutes. Add the reduced chicken broth and cook until slightly reduced, 2 to 3 minutes. Return the chicken to the skillet, skin side up. Broil 4 inches from the heat for about 1 minute, just until the skin is very crisp. Discard the rosemary sprigs. Transfer the chicken, sauce and vegetables to plates and serve.
This dish can be served with rice, beans or a salad. Have many napkins handy as they will get all over the face and fingers. Although they can get messy, they are to die for; no one will mind the mess, they will be too busy saying “yummy”. This plate is very healthy and it will fill you up guaranteed. Enjoy it and remember to share.

Shrek Party Game Ideas
Princess Fiona Rescue: The goal of the game is to find princess Fiona and rescue her.
Setup:
1. Princess Doll
2. Index cards with clues written on them
3. Candies
Playing:
First you will give the group of children an index card that has a clue on it for the next clue. They will follow the clues as they get closer to finding Princess Fiona. At each clue, have pieces of candy or some prize to keep them going. You can make two teams in order to make it more enticing to get to the princess before the other team. When the children are approaching their last clue, make a candy trail to the princess. The first person to reach Princess Fiona and rescue her wins the game.
Make the hunt more effective by making 7-10 clues. Utilize a larger space where they have to travel around to different areas of the event and use their minds. Lots more

Shrek MENU IDEAS |

Shrek party Menu
A Shrek party consists of a lot of green and a lot of fun. Use your imagination to create a menu even Shrek could not say no to!
Snack Table: This is where your creativity can shine. One of the first things the children will expect is green Jello. You can have a big bowl of green Jello and small Shrek bowls to dole them out in.
Another great idea is to make swamp cups. These are just like dirt cups, however, the will be called swamp cups for the Shrek theme of the party. First fill the bottom of each cup with crushed Oreo cookies. Next, put a layer of chocolate pudding followed by another layer of Oreo cookie. Repeat this until the cup is full. Add Shrek gummies to the top along with gummy worms to make it even more fun.
Have other goodies such as gummies, smoothies to drink, chocolate and more.
Main Meal: For the main meal, making a meal for a prince is fitting. In this meal you can make a whole chicken with many sides, or you can make shish ka bobs. Shish ka bobs can be made out of beef or chicken and are often a fun alternative to a normal meal. After all it is supposed to be creative and fun.
Dessert: For desert, have a Shrek cake either made from the local bakery or by you along with vanilla ice cream or mint chocolate chip. On the ice cream have toppings such as chocolate syrup, green cherries and sprinkles. By just adding even one simple food item to the menu will help create
a complete Shrek theme party feeling. |
