Shrek is a ‘kids’ movie’ that appeals to all generations; and who wouldn’t love a Shrek party that comes complete with a full host of trivia facts about the loveable ogre and his friends.
Kick off the Shrek fest by reminding guests a bit about the movie and its characters. A Dreamworks animated production debuting in 2001, the film “Shrek” concerned the efforts of an ogre (voiced by Mike Myers) to regain his swamp by delivering a beautiful princess (voice of Cameron Diaz) to a scheming lord with the help of a charismatic donkey (voiced by Eddie Murphy). True to its comedic spirit, the movie’s original tagline was “The Prince isn't charming. The Princess isn't sleeping. The sidekick isn't helping. The ogre is the hero. Fairy tales will never be the same again.”
Also chat a bit about the movie’s history, and its amazing success. The original “Shrek”, directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson, was written by Ted Elliott and was based on a book by William Steig. The movie, which won the 2002 Oscar for Best Animated Feature, grossed an astounding $267,652,016; this film was followed by “Shrek 2”, “Shrek the Third” and “Shrek Forever After”. The film also inspired a full line of merchandise, including DVDs, plastic and stuffed Shrek dolls, puppets, stickers, yo yos, activity blocks, posters, whistles, lunchboxes, and even fake green Shrek ears, affixed on a headband
