Heat some caramel so that it is soft and runny. Then drizzle it over a sheet of parchment paper making it drip into a web-like design. This will be placed on top of the cake, so make it large enough to cover it. When it cools, it will be stiff but very fragile, so handle it delicately. Brush some black food coloring over it. If black is not available, a dark blue mixed with just a bit of red will come close to the color.
When that dries, handle the parchment paper delicately and hover it over the top of the cake. Gently place the web over the cake and trim off any unwanted pieces that overlap. This is the basis for the Spiderman cake. Now you can add the actual action figure to it, along with other characters from the series, or place an edible photo of Spiderman over the top. The kids will love it.Another variation is the web over the cake as Spiderman’s face, and simply make the eyes with white frosting. If the caramel does not work for you, or it breaks, black string licorice might work out better.
