As for decorations, that depends on the sport involved, but if the sport is played with a ball such as football than use that as a theme. Maybe adding in some jerseys either as a prop, or worn as clothing if it would make sense to use them.
Finally, whatever you intend to do for your party, even playing the sport itself, remember that things can get quite messy. With all the food going around you’ll want to invest in disposable dishes and utensils, as well as, as many napkins as possible. You won’t want to wash all those dishes after the party.
