A festive
party can be had with an
educational twist.
Saint Patrick’s Day is a holiday for the Irish, though many Americans celebrate it. Each year on March 17th, millions of us wear green to avoid being pinched, and enjoy several foods and drinks. Recently, it was petitioned to become a National Holiday for us in the United States. Nothing has been said yet, as the petitions are still available. But, at any rate, you can use this holiday for a holiday educational party to help your children learn. Take them looking for four leaf clovers, telling them the legends of luck, the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, and leprechauns. If you know of Irish heritage in your family, this is a great time to introduce it and talk about it with your children. Have them help you make corn beef and cabbage if you like that meal. You can make green jell-o, and green drinks to celebrate. Tell them the story of St. Patrick, and why he is held in high regard in Ireland. Explain why you are pinched if you do not wear the color green, and let the children tell you what they think of it becoming a national holiday here in America. If there are parades in your area, then you should consider attending to give your family a fun outing. Make four leaf clovers with a printable template on green paper, and let the children write things that they are lucky to have on each clover. Then you can display them around the house and make new ones each year.
