Superman has definitely made his mark as a long term superhero in superhero history. Began as a DC comic he was largely considered to be an icon of an entire culture of Americans. Created in 1932 by two artists and sold to Detective Comics, this icon leapt out of the gate with instant popularity. A generation that had waited for their own superhero gained an incredible strong and patriotic one, just what was needed in this period between two World Wars. Not only did he make his mark on history with his comic adventures but also quickly became a welcome fad on such media available like radio or television programming.
Created by artists Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in 1932 this superhero is very distinctive and iconic in his blue, yellow and red superhero costume. His cape and his huge S shield on the chest has become an international symbol in the years since his inception. In 1938 Superman first began appearing in Action Comics.
Thereafter he has had an even longer history from appearances in movies, tv series and even video games. Supermans original history was said to be that he was born on another planet known as Krypton. However, seconds before the total destruction of his planet his parents sent him out in a safety capsule to save his life. He was subsequently adopted by farmers in Kansas and raised as Clark Kent. Upon reaching manhood, he decides to use his superpowers to the greater good and fight crime for one and all.
