Survivor has made a place in history as being the leading edge in reality tv for its time. The original concept is directly credited to Charlie Parsons who is the co owner of Castaway TV Productions. The show takes a panel of contestants and strands them in a variety of different elements. Rain forest, desert islands and many other forms of terra firma have dominated this series and the participating contestants.
The history behind Survivor was created when reality show television began to gain popularity due to shows like Who Wants to be a Millionaire? During this show contestants are taken to a variety of stranded wildernesses and set up with task and games to compete for cash and prizes. These prizes can be minimal to the outside world, but such things as cold water or a quick party visit to a bar can be just what contestants need to refresh themselves for the difficult task of basic survival.
The facts of the show include several people who have had to leave the show early due to succumbing to the basic elements. The show also features a series of progressive eliminations that can sometimes turn cast members against one another. The added intrigue and drama has only served to create yet a wider and more interested audience. When other members attended their tribal meetings things had a tendency to get confrontational and erratic. The show gained such popularity that subsequent seasons were planned for years to come.
