Of course, to a child, education and party should never be in the same sentence, but there are lots of arts and crafts and other activities you can do to engage your children in learning around Thanksgiving. Teach them the story behind Thanksgiving, and have them make lists or draw pictures of what they are thankful for. Hand turkeys are great to engage creativity—and will keep them busy for awhile. If they are eager to help you in the food preparation for your big meal, give them all jobs, and let them know you are thankful for their help. They will take pride in their helping hand when the meal is enjoyed by the family, and learn skills that are essential for later in their lives. Instead of making gifts, your children can make a centerpiece to be used on the table while you enjoy your meal! Any Thanksgiving celebration can have an educational sense—because no matter what activities you choose to do, your children will learn teamwork, togetherness, and if you are lucky, patience! Party guests can dress up as the pilgrims who shared the feast with the Native Americans, and put on a show for the adults to show how much they learned and appreciate from Thanksgiving.
