Thor: The Mighty Avenger PARTY CRAFT IDEAS

Thor is a popular superhero with God-like superpowers. While no superhero is invincible, Thor is remarkably close. Thor is a powerful , intimidating figure who wheels a war hammer and wears a Viking-style helmet. Have children create their own superhero weapons by making Viking Helmets and war hammer.

Viking helmet
Materials needed:
plastic milk jug or bowl
newspaper
black marker
scissors
brown paper bag
glue
masking tape
Double-sided carpet tape
silver duct tape
measuring tape

Under the jug's handle, draw a line around the jug. Use measuring tape to make the line even and cut the milk jug at the line. Use the bottom half of the milk jug to make the helmet. Use a bowl that looks similar to a Viking-style helmet as well.

Roll newspaper to form horns leaving the bottom of the horns to place on the helmet. Cover each horn with masking tape. Smooth the edges of the masking tape firmly to the horns. Use double-sided tape to hold the horns on the helmet.

Attach double-sided tape to the outside bottom edge of the helmet with one layer of newspaper.

Cut pieces of brown paper bag. Glue the bag pieces to the newspaper-covered crown of the Viking helmet. Press the pieces of the paper bag smoothly against the newspaper.

Place silver duct tape along the bottom edge of the Viking helmet and around the horns.

War Hammer
Materials needed:
4 sheets of brown construction paper (9 inches by 12 inches ideally)
2 sponge paintbrushes (head 2 inches or larger)
1 cardboard gift wrapping paper roll
1 sledge hammer sized box
1 bottle of brown poster paint
1 bottle of black poster paint
washable craft glue
markers

Paint your sledgehammer handle with a 2-inch sponge brush with. Cover the entire cardboard wrapping paper roll with brown paint. Paint or wrap paper roll in brown construction paper.

To create your sledgehammer head, take the empty box and glue the lid to the base. Paint the box with black poster paint. Cut out a hole to attach the handle to the sledgehammer head. Place the painted box on a table. Place one end of the cardboard roll on top of the box. Then trace around the perimeter of the roll with a pencil. Poke a small hole into the center of the traced circle and then cut out a slightly smaller circle within the traced circle. This will allow for the handle to fit tightly in the sledgehammer head. Glue the handle and sledgehammer together spreading the glue around the base. Now you have a Thor war hammer.
