Creating a Thor: The Mighty Avenger homemade pinata is a fun project that you can even involve your kids in. With just a few simple household items, you'll soon have a great handmade pinata for your next childrens' gathering.
Pinatas are made of paper mache, which can be messy, so be sure to cover your work area with newspaper or other protective covering. For this project, you'll need lots of newspaper strips, liquid starch (if you don' t have liquid starch, use one part flour and two parts water), a craft knife, crepe paper, a rectangular mold like a cereal box, glue, and masking tape.
To start, dip a piece of newspaper into the liquid mixture. Draw it through your fingers to remove the excess, then lay it flat on the mold. Repeat this until the entire mold is covered with paper mache. Make sure there are no gaps, except for a hole at the top to put candy in later. Allow this to dry for a day or two before applying another layer of paper mache. Allow the second layer to dry as well.
Once it's dry, take the craft knife and cut the paper mache into two pieces. Take out your mold, then tape the two pinata pieces back together with some masking tape.
Print out an image of Thor: The Mighty Avenger from your computer or local print shop. You can also use a magazine or poster image. Paste the image on the front of the pinata. Decorate the rest of it with squares of crepe paper in colors of your choice.
Once your pinata is finished, all that's left to do is to fill it with candy, string it up, and let the good times roll!
