A wine tasting party is a deceptively simple name for an elaborate, often quite elegant festivity celebrated around the world.
In their beginnings wine tastings may have had a character similar to the speakeasies of the 1920s; socials where people met in private homes to talk, laugh, dance and enjoy fine spirits. Over time, however, the practice of wine tasting has become a refined art form; one that involves savoring the look, taste, balance, and even the swirl of the wines sampled. People now study and train for years to become wine tasters, and wine tasting parties—which now can take place at wineries, ballrooms and rented recreation facilities—have become significant happenings.
In addition, wine tastings now are frequently combined with other festivities. People host or attend wine tastings to celebrate birthday parties, bridal showers, anniversary bashes, corporate parties, and other events. As everyone knows, a steady flow of wine makes everything better—and more fun! The host just has to make sure that—due to the alcoholic beverages served-- all of these festivities are restricted to adult participation.
A vast variety of fine spirits could be served at a wine tasting party, everything from dry or organic reds to pure merlots and roses, ports and cabernets to cognacs and champagne. Popular brands could include Francis Ford Coppola (yep, the film director) and Sutter Home, Barefoot and Glenn Ellen. Wines could be served with cheeses, chocolates and finger sandwiches; some might even serve their wines as accents to full dinners.
Like fine wine itself, a wine tasting can take many forms. Plan the ultimate wine tasting party today!
